Newberry Habitat and La Pine ReStore looking for donations!

By T. Myers

The Newberry Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Sunriver/La Pine, OR needs your cash and gently used item donations to support the La Pine ReStore retail operations. The proceeds from the sales of these items supports the Homeowner Program mission of Habitat for Humanity across the country, but local sales sponsor the building of local homes for local qualified families.

This year we finished one home and started two new homes for families in the La Pine area. The new owners are slated to have their homes dedicated to them in November so the cycle of planning for the next building year is in process and so is the fundraising effort to cover the costs of materials for next season!

The Newberry Habitat committees work with the qualified applicants and the General Contractor, Steve Krebs with Exact Construction to build each home. There is a process where new homeowners have a chance to learn everything they need to know about being a new homeowner and then they work together with financial advisors, family selection personnel and on their job sites- along with other sites, too, to accumulate hundreds of hours of sweat equity as their contribution to their home build. In the meantime, the La Pine ReStore is diligent in accepting and selling donated items and the affiliate can also accept cash donations through the generosity of donors in the area, in order to create the bank (So to speak) behind each homeowner build!

Do you have some old building materials left over from a job at your home? Do you have paint or fasteners, furniture, electronics, old lumber, windows, plumbing fixtures, appliances that you have to replace? The La Pine Restore is happy to accept anything that can be recycled, reused or renovated.

Tools are also in demand, old doors, interior and exterior both, mirrors, hanging pictures, lamps, end tables, rugs, chairs and dining tables. The ReStore does take E-waste and Paint ends and cans.

Stop by the La Pine ReStore today and get information about donations. If you are interested in becoming part of the team of friends who give time to support the Habitat mission, sign up with Rolando Alonzo at the ReStore or call Dan Varcoe, the volunteer coordinator, at 541-771-9177 to join the team!

Our two websites offer up to date information about the wonderful things we are doing every day to grow our South County community one home at a time: www.newberryhabitat.org or www.lapinerestore.org.
